What to do about ankles that give out?!


Question: What to do about ankles that give out.?
I was thinking of taking up running or jogging, but I haven't been very active lately and my ankles give out when I run.

Is that something that goes away as you get used to exercise.?Health Question & Answer

Doing circular motions with your feet increases strength Birdie...and you can do these when you are watching TV or sitting. also, I wouldn't be running...Just start doing a nice walk a day, 20 minutes or so. In time proceed with a faster and longer walk, wearing sound walking apparel. Check out the Runner's store of your choice, one that sells great runners for those serious in jogging/ Protect your feet as they carry you! And do check with your doc for extra help...I have weak angles...lordy, lordy... you should see me skate! I look challenged, ankley challenged...... hahahah! Whenever I take a break from running I find that when I return my ankles and ligaments take a beating from a run which I normally find mundane. So I always make sure to return very slowly otherwise I end up sidelining myself due to an injury. Since you are just taking it up for the first time, I suggest the same for you. Alternate days, not running back to back until you are ready. Even if it seems lame, just go for a walk in between hard days. Eventually you will be able to run every day and even later twice a day if you want to.

Please do not run in high tops! There is a reason why all running shoes have low ankle support. High tops will negatively affect your form and just lead to another injury. All you need to do is slowly work up the strength in your ankles.Health Question & Answer

get high top shoes that cover your ankles. but not the weak high tops. you need the strong high tops. that will help your ankles get stronger, it will also take time. running is not good for your ankles. think about it. lets just say you weight is 150 all that weight gos onto one ankles then fast to the other. walk at a some what fast slow speed is better.Health Question & Answer
