ok, i have a friend who is 5'6 and weighs 245 pounds. she is really overweight and she wants help loosing weight, but i don't no what to tell her to do. any suggestions other than acci berry thanx

It is harsh to hear but stop eating so many calories (eat smaller portions and eat healthy lower calorie foods) and start exercising to use up some of the calories that she is eating. It all comes down to calories in and exercise out put.

If you are a true friend, offer to exercise with her...go fast walking, take a dance class, aerobics, biking, etc. When you eat together, choose healthy choices and don't persuade her to split a dessert with you or eat other fattening stuff. If her parents will help her, she can do Jenny Craig. I joined in Jan and have lost 26 lbs and have not even exercised. I know that it is not good that I am not exercising but I am still loosing weight. I would get faster results if I exercised.

Weight watchers is another grea plan and might work better for her because she can still eat at restaurants with you and other friends with out making it obvious that she is dieting.Health Question & Answer

She needs to maintain a regular exercise regime, and at the same time control her diet. About an hour of exercise every day is a good start (jogging, cycling, treadmill, etc) but its best to keep active for the most part of the day rather than just sitting around. also best to stay away from fatty foods, but that doesnt mean give up your favourite foods altogether. Keep an eye on what she is eating, make sure she eats healthy foods like apples or carrots. Make sure she exercises everyday for at least 1 hour! Like easy slow miles, or just some short distant sprinting. Swimming is probably a good idea also. also limit the junk foods she eats. Tell her to only eat junk food on weekends. But only every 3 hours. Get her signed up for active after school activities (track and field, hockey, soccer, basketball, volleyball. Just make sure they're ones she actually ENJOYS). So, all these people are going to say....easy eat less, exercise more. Not true for some people. I have tried almost every diet out there and now I'm thinking and going to do the gastric bypass surgery. No, I don't think it's an easy, fast fix and it scares me to do it but I want my children to grow up with a healthy mother not a fat mother. So, one thing that is working for me right now. Lost 6lbs in 5wks so far is making sure that I have plenty of protein not to mention that my Vit. D level was only 7 and should be around 30-40 on the low end. Since I've been taking Vit. D pills I have more energy. Here's a sample menu that I'm doing....

Breakfast...1 hard boiled egg, 1 piece of toast w/1tsp of peanut butter.

Snack...100 calorie pack anything usually popcorn

Lunch...Chicken Wrap homemade...Chicken breast cut into chunks with raw veggies of your choice and mustard.

Dinner...Lean cut meat (1 night a week), Fish (not fried or breaded) (2 nights a week), Veggetarian dinners (2 nights a week), 1 night a week is a free night (NO FAST FOOD INCLUDING PIZZA). Make sure you add a veggie every night and you don't always have to have a starch. Your plate should be full of more veggies than anything. For flavor brush olive oil and add pepper/chili powder. NO BUTTER!

Desert if we want it....take the sugar free whipped cream in a can and spray it into a small pudding cup put in the freezer for about 30 min and it tastes just like ice cream. Fresh fruit. or sugar free pudding.

Stay away from caffine and anything carbinated.

Go for a walk AFTER dinner. I walk 1.3 miles a night with my 3 year old twins who I make walk also so I'm not leaning on a stroller. also they get used to the exercise.
