Would this be a good excercise routine for me?!

Question: Would this be a good excercise routine for me.?
I'm 12 years old, 5 foot 1 inch and I weigh 124 pounds.

Monday: Run up and down stairs 50 times
Tuesday: Lift weights (arms) 50 times
Wednesday: Run up and down stairs 50 times
Thursday: Crunches 50 times
Friday: Run up and down stairs 50 times
Saturday: Lift weights (ankles) 50 times

My goal is to look firm and somewhat toned by the beginning of May. Do you think it will work.?Health Question & Answer

Ok where to begin. Your exercise routine while certainly better than no exercise at all will not have you looking firm and toned in a month.

Firstly, i would not recommend doing 6 days a week of exercise when you're just starting out.

Secondly, as far as your cardio is concerned, do not start with running up and down stairs it is much harder than you think. I would start with some light jogging on a flat surface, even jogging on the spot. The idea is to raise your heart rate in your case pretty much as high as you can and then keep it there. Try it the first day and see how far you can go and then aim to do the same on subsequent days. Do this 3-4 times a week for about 20 minutes.

Thirdly, do your strength training on the same day as you do your cardio this way you get 4 on days and 3 off days which is enough recovery time.

Fourthly, do your weight training for 40 minutes which will take your total workout to 1 hour 4 times a week.

Fifth, do not lift any really heavy weight, this is really bad for a 12 year old, since your bone structure is still forming. Stick to stuff like push-ups, pull-ups, crunches, dips, squats etc. stuff that uses your own body weight, maybe do some light dumb-bells.

Six, do these strength exercises in sets, i.e. push-ups 3 sets of 10, squats 4 sets of 12 etc. This is the basics of doing weight training, you do it in X sets of Y repetitions.

Lastly, no exercise routine on earth will get you looking tones in 1 month unless you're already looking not too bad, if you're at all flabby, I would aim for 3-6 month before you start seeing good results.

Good luckHealth Question & Answer

to tone your body you need to do alot of cardiovascular work. running up and down the stairs 50 times will get your heart rate going but once you get your heart rate to where you want it then thats where your more able to burn alot of calories. when lifting weights, at such a young age be careful. im talking really low weights with alot of repititions. like bicep curls for example. 5-10lbs and do 3 sets of 15...drink alot of water and eat healthy.Health Question & Answer
