i have promise my family and my husband i will stop smoking but i really take it and smoke without letting them but unforunately my husband found it and angry with me what shall i do and how to quit my smoking !!!!Health Question & Answer

Well if its a nicotine addiction than you need professional help like the patch or something to ween you off of it. but if its just a habit that you need to break, well there are several things.

first of all get rid of everything pretaining to smoking. all lighters, cigarettes, everything. don't be around your friends if they smoke, or if you smoke with them at least not for a while. everytime you get a craving to smoke (not the best solution but a quick one) you could substitute it with something else. gum, or better yet a chocolate bar could satisfy you for a while.

basically you need willpower. and remind yourself that its better this way, and you'd feel guilty if you quit.

also if something about your husband annoys you tell him to quit that if u quit smoking, that way if you get weak and smoke again, you lose. it would be a good little bonus for quitting. and set some small goals so that you don't go crazy. like "if i don't smoke for a week i get ice cream" or "not for a month, a new pair of shoes"Health Question & Answer

smoking is very hard to quit. start chewing gum, straws when the feeling urge gets to difficult.
what i did when i quit was leave a pack in the freezer and i would tell myself i can have a cigarette anytime, but i won't today, i did that everyday. those cigarettes stayed in the freezer for years.

From personal experience with my mom, you have to want to quit. If you dont want to, then you wont. My mom had her dr. prescribe her a medication called Chantix. Its suppose to stop your cravings for the nicotine. Of course, there is always the patches and gum to help. but deep down you are going to have to WANT to quit, if not then nothing will help. My mom took the chantix and in april 2009 she will have been a non smoker for 2 years.Health Question & Answer

I tried quitting a hundred times and failed just as many. Then I noticed that I would wake up every morning coughing. I got really concerned and looked up info on COPDs (bronchitis, emphysema). In my search I found this website that I've read pretty much every article on and think was very helpful.

You have to thoroughly educate yourself on all of the consequences of smoking. In detail. Know exactly how it affects your body and the precise way in which it is destroying it. I read how bronchitis and emphysema and lung cancer are all formed and it scared the crap out of me. Thankfully, I don't have any of these, but just the fear I felt when I thought that I might was enough to keep me off cigarettes for the past four months.

Smoking really is suicidal. It kills your lungs, it ages your skin, it makes many aerobic activities a lot more difficult. In the website I send, there is an article that explains why people love tobacco. It talks about how you depend on it and think that it gives you focus and energy and keeps you upbeat and feeling good. In reality, it only dos these things because you're addicted to it and rely on it to make you happy. Once you quit for long enough, you will feel revitalized and energetic and happy without tobacco.

I'm not gonna lie, quitting sucks. It made me anxious and moody for a while and I had a hard time going out and enjoying myself or wanting to socialize with other people. And it made me less focused and less clear-headed. All of these side affects are slowly disappearing and I'm noticing my old self come back but now with a much healthier body. My body feels SO much better. My cough is gone, I don't lose my breath when exercising, my skin is brighter, all my clothes don't smell, and I'm not a slave to little white sticks. But most importantly, I know that I am not purposefully doing something terrible to my body and shortening my own life span.

You have to evaluate how cigarettes are controlling your life and know that you can be happy without them.

its mind over matter. quit means quit! use licorice (red or black) and chew a small hole in each side and inhale through it to get through those urges of inhaling smoke. It helped me, but using an unlit cig seems to be a constant reminder that you'd like to light it. Dont tease yourself. Plus you can munch on the twizler too.
