Just had ACL repair surgery a month ago, and slipped on ice last night & bent bad leg. Will I be okay?!

Question: Just had ACL repair surgery a month ago, and slipped on ice last night & bent bad leg. Will I be okay.?
Had my surgery 12/17/08, and was healing rather quickly by 3 weeks i was walking well with no brace or crutches, and only a slight limp. I attend school in South Jersey and anyone around here knows the weather has been extremely colder lately than usual. As it was, yesterday during the day snow showers were on and off resulting in a wet ground, and when night came around, it turned to ice. I saw this and took even more caution walking because, well i had surgery and didn't want to get hurt. But my luck, i end up slipping on the ice.

My left leg (good leg) went straight, while my right leg, the one i just had surgery on, bent and went out to the right and i landed on my back. At first, i kind of just laid there, knowing what had just happened and then all these terrible thoughts kept going through my mind. What if the graft moved.? What if i tore my meniscus.? what if i pulled another ligament.?

Well i got up and for the time being i felt okay. I could walk so to me i seemed okay momentarily. The reason i think i'm okay is because the first time i originally tore my ACL my right leg bent in, or to the left, and i distinctly remember hearing and feeling a pop. Last night, i didn't hear or feel either to me which was a good sign.

Around my knee it was a little red, but just the type that happens whenever you fall. Again though, me being the freak i am, I'm still nervous i may have done something being only about 4-5 weeks post op.

Anyone have something similar happen.? What should i do.? I'm already gonna be going to a physical therapist, actually back, in a few days after i got settled in school.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Did you slip in the last few hours.? If you have gotten past the first 24-36 hours, the swelling should be maximum by now. Ice it down. Wrap the knee with an ace bandage to avoid any extra twisting, and treat it with extra TLC from now on. I personally believe in braces. It's it's weak but you need it, then wrap it! I don't want to push my luck (wear back and hand braces post surgery)as I have done that in the past and re-injured healing after lumbar surgery.Health Question & Answer
