Pain on left half of ribs?!
Question: Pain on left half of ribs.?
My brother has been in pain for a couple of days now and its on his left side i want to say right near his lungs and ribs area. I'm studying to be a nurse so i know a good amount but clearly not enough.
He cant think of anything that he did to hurt himself, maybe a little bit of heavy lifting.? But not enough to pull a muscle or anything of the sort.
He said it hurts to laugh, and every now and again he'll get constant pain for almost 2 or 3 minutes at a time. During that time, he has trouble breathing evenly and has to take sharp quick breaths. I've never seen him wince in pain like this. I know its not any heart pain, so I'm not worried about that. I've applied pressure to his actual ribs, with no pain, so I don't believe that they are either bruised or broken.
Please help. I wish I could give more information but that's all I can really get from the naked eye. I know that he should go to the hospital, but he won't listen to me! I was hoping if I could get a possible "theory" for his pain that could convince him to get some serious help. Like I said I can only do so much!
Any theories out there.? Please don't waste my time or yours by writing " I don't know" take your incompetent answers somewhere else for your 2 points.

I don't know honestly...lol. But I can say that since you said it doesn't hurt to apply pressure, it must be something internally! But maybe you could tell him that there is a chance of pneumothorax (obviously a lie) to get him to go... Or tell him that his BP raises too high during the pain and he needs to get pain killers so that it doesn't get to high (another lie haha)... I'm just trying to help you with ideas!

I get the same pain, after I eat dairy products. He might be lactose-Intolerant like me, it hurts like crap and to the point where it's hard to breathe for me.Health Question & Answer
sounds like pneumonia, would not mess around with it. could also be a pneumo. any time you are in respiratory distress, DO NOT MESS AROUND!!!!!! Go to the doctor or ED and do not pass go or collect $200!! Good luck, AngelaHealth Question & Answer
yah I get that too. I'm not sure what it is...it might be lactose intolerance like me, but it's reallllly painful :(
