I was just prescribed Darvocet ...?!
Question: I was just prescribed Darvocet ....?
Thursday morning, I woke up with acute pharyngitis, a serious ear infection, raging fever, etc. The doc gave me Augmentin and Darvocet. I got sick a day and a half after a dental appointment.
I know about the Augmetin, but why would they prescribe Darvocet.? It isn't as new as other drugs on the market, and it has a lot of side effects that the newer ones do not have. Why would a doc prescribe Darvocet instead of something like Hydrocodone or something.?
I know I can't get complete medical advice without knowing my complete history, current situation, etc, but I was just curious.Health Question & Answer

Augmentin is essentially used to prevent infections that are most likely caused by bacteria, whereas Darvocet is to be used for actual pain. As compared to Hydrocodone or most other prescription pain meds, Darvocet is more geared toward controlling mild to moderate pain, whereas Hydrocodone and most others are more for moderate to severe pain control.
