Ugh, I'm on crutches and it's hard to do anything, been there?!

Question: Ugh, I'm on crutches and it's hard to do anything, been there.?
I've been on crutches since late November and probably will be for a few more months yet. I have a cancerous tumor in my left hip and doc wants me non-weight bearing as much as possible so I don't fracture my hip. I'm in my 30s with young kiddos. I'm getting to the point where I'm getting increasingly frustrated by not being able to do anything or feel "productive" around the house. Anyone else been in a situation like this.? How'd you cope.? It's depressingHealth Question & Answer

I feel for youI am on crutches due to a back problem so I know how you feel. Wait until the kids realise that without your crutches you can not go after them and they pinch them lol. Well you should be taking things a bit easy, try to do things sitting down play games, read books or do puzzles with the children. Try to prepare the food for cooking whilst sitting down. You just need to find out little tricks that help you do a few small things and try not to get to depressed about it. In the uk where I live a number of the bigger towns have a group called Shopmobility and they lend out electric scooters and wheelchairs so people can get around in the town centre and some town centres have parks or play areas for the children. I am sorry I do not know if there are schemes like this in other countries. If not is there somewhere you could borrow a wheelchair from not the best form of transport but if it means you get outside all the better. I have been using the crutches for so long now that I have developed osteo-arthritis in my shoulders so now it is extremely painful to use them and it is also painful trying to steer the scooters, so I have to let my husband push me around! (in the wheelchair of course!!!) The best way to cope is try not to let it get you down and try to have a laugh because laughter is the best medicine and it is extremely contagious. Hope this helps a little bit at least if you want someone to 'talk' to please feel free to contact me and I will do what I can. I try and get on the computer once a day but I do miss some days if the pain is to bad but i promise i will reply as soon as I can. Good luck and I hope that whatever treatment you get works out for you.Health Question & Answer

im sorry huni, wish i had better words to say. i myself have not had this situation on me. i can only imagine being so young and in this prediciment though, the cancer, the kids, the feeling of helplessness...its tough. have had my share of that but in diff ways, i was laid up for other reasons. its hard when you cant just get up and go and do what you want or need to do, and for you epecialy because of kids. depression does set it, and sets in good at times, but you have to try an keep positive as hard s it is. keep positive not only for your kids but for YOU... what about perhaps a wheelchair of sorts.? they may be a little easier to maneuver and you can least get around a bit easier maybe.? also can least do a few more things while sitting sometimes then trying to hold crutches/stand and do things. aask your doc if there is any other alternatives for you so that you can better do things....

i wish you the very best, and hope the outcome wil be goood for you. :)
