Is this common after a screw-insertion-into-ankl... operation?!

Question: Is this common after a screw-insertion-into-ankle operation.?
My mum broke her ankle early Friday morning. But since she didn't realize it was broken she wasn't taken to the hospital until that evening. Saturday afternoon she was scheduled for surgery to put a screw in her ankle. She got one of those shots into her spine during the surgery so was awake during the procedure. The ankle has yet to be plastered. Today, Sunday afternoon, the drugs disappear from her system. She is in excruciating pain. They keep giving her more and more morphine but she says it's not helping. She's told the doctors to take into account that she's extremely obese and this will therefore affect the drugs impact on her and they say they've taken it into account.

I don't know what to do. She says it feels like someone is sawing her leg off. My mum has a high tolerance for pain (she didn't even realise her ankle was broken!) but now she can't even talk because of the pain. I am so stressed and am close to yelling at the nurses (even though that probably won't help).

My ultimate concern is that they're using bad morphine or are holding the amount back due to cost.

Tell me, is this type of extreme pain usual.? Even when having used 3 high doses so far of morphine.?

This is in Sweden, btw, and although there's no reason why hospitals should be dodgy I won't rule it out.

Please help!Health Question & Answer
