My doctor said my foot isn't broken... is he right?!

Question: My doctor said my foot isn't broken... is he right.?
while on vacation, I was running on a very uneven road surface, and when i stepped down on my left foot, I heard a loud crack and i felt my foot collapse a little... like, at the arch. On the top of my foot, there was a purple spot when we got home, and my foot swelled up a bit. That was over a month ago, and it still hurts. So two weeks ago, I went and got an x-ray. Before the doctor looked at it, the nurses were looking at the x-ray, and they were talking to each other about how it may be broken on one of the metacarples. Then the doctor looked at it and said it wasn't broken, so I just went home.
It hurts to walk on it, the arch of my foot is a lot higher than it was before the accident, and to ease the pain, I walk on the side of my foot... What could be wrong.? Is my doctor right.? I've doubted it for a while.
The weird arch is very obvious... and my doctor failed to tell me what was actually wrong with it; just that "it wasn't broken."Health Question & Answer

Answers:
First your x-ray should be read by a radiologist, not your GP. A subtle fracture could have been missed.

You should seek a referral to an orthopedic surgeon. They will be able to better evaluate your foot and come up with a course of treatment. They would also, more than likely, take another set of x-rays possiblily with better angles to see a possible fracture in that area. A CT or MRI would also be helpful in finding a subtle fracture. I think that you injury is highly suspect of a fracture, as most soft tissue injuries would cause the arch to fall not raise.Health Question & Answer

I don't know about a break. But something is definitely wrong if you have to change your gait to compensate. do not do this for long or you could cause more problems for your other leg muscles, etc. Get a second opinion.Health Question & Answer
