Terrified of needles...?!
Question: Terrified of needles.......?
I am terrified of getting my blood drawn and getting IVs.. The worst part; I am pregnant, due any day w/my daughter, so I've had a million blood tests done, and at everyone I still scream and cry, my palms sweat (and now, even typing this, I get dizzy and naucious just thinking about it) --I've had 4 IVs in my lifetime (so far) the 1st time I got an IV it was horrible, they couldn't stick me right; the 2nd time the nurse got me on the first try, I remember it hurting but I don't remember much else; the 3rd time they stuck me w/an IV and I was knocked out immediately afterwards w/medicine so I don't remember that at all; the 4th time I remember it hurt SO badly --the thing is; IO remember them hurting but when I think back on it, I can't remember HOW bad or to what extent, but I know I will be getting an IV anyday now and I am terrified, I need help w/this phobia; I scream and cry when I know I am expected to get an IV or get blood drawn.. I am terrified; please, help.?! By the way......Health Question & Answer

I understand your fear, I have it as well (maybe not quite as bad).. I've only ever had 1 IV, and although it grossed me out and I refused to move that arm as long as the needle was in it, the fact is that it didn't hurt......the idea of a needle being in my arm just creeped me out..
For such a serious phobia as you have, I'd advise you speak to a therapist.. Someone who deals with phobias and can help you become more rational about yours.. You may never have a "don't care" attitude regarding needles, but you may get to the point where you do what you have to do without breaking out into a sweat, feeling like you're going to throw up, and shaking like a leaf..
BTW, I hope all goes well with the birth and you are a happy and proud mother the rest of your life.. ?Health Question & Answer
