Question for ex- smokers?? help please!!?!

Question: Question for ex- smokers.?.? help please!!.?
I have smoked ciggerettes for almost 16 years.. I am 30 (I know how sad) i really want to quit or at least I keep telling my self that.. I have plenty of reasons to quit.. I have kids, I want to be healthy and this habit is breaking the bank.. I just can't seem to do it.. i try but i always go back to the ciggeretts.. I have absoultly no will power or self control.. And I am a chain smoker I smoke 2 packs a day easy..Right now I am sneaking them so I am down to a pack.. And to be completly honest I couldn't even completly quit when I was pregnant.. (no lectures please) I thought for sure that would be the push i needed.. Am I crazy to think I can do this cold turkey.? How long do these freaking cravings last.? I know I am going to gain a butt load of weight.. No pun intended.. I need some advice from someone who can help me.. I'm sick of this addiction and I am so weak.. I am an ex- cocaine addict.. I have been clean for over 9 years and I can't even quit smoking ciggerettes.. Oh and I know I can't spellHealth Question & Answer

I smoked myself for years..

First off, you have to really want to quit.. I used the patch and found that it really helped.. Use the clear one, its less itchy and irritating than the skin tone colored ones.. also, try to find the 16 hour patch (though hard to find) over the 24 hour one..

You will gain a little weight...... your appetite will be normal again.. Sipping on water is of huge help and also helps you detox.. So keep a water bottle with you everywhere you go..

If you get a really bad craving, realize it only lasts 2 minutes tops and you can get through that.. Breathe it through, doodle through it or run up and down some stairs.. Each day you get through gets better because mentally with each crave you get through you realize it IS possible to quit and stay quit..

Stay away from things you associate with smoking.. Drinking alcohol or coffee, certain friends you smoke around more.. Ask people to smoke outside only..

Another thing I really recommend is this site:

.quitnet..com" rel="nofollow">http://www..quitnet..com

If it wasn't for that site I never would have done it.. Lots of free support, forums, nurses and lots of info on what to expect and how to deal with it.. Do bookmark it on your computer...... its a life saver!

If you have other questions you can email me..

Good luck! I know you can do this!Health Question & Answer

i think theres like a 2 week curve in the cravings once you go the first 2 weeks is gets easier..

i personaly did chewing tabacco for about a month i switched to it so i could ease off smoking.. and after about a month it was easier for me to quit the chew than it was to quit smoking.. i havnt smoked for about 2 months and havnt chewed for over a monthHealth Question & Answer

Have you tried Chantix.? It worked wonders for me! They say it's a harder habit to break than heroin & cocaine.. Good luck to you!Health Question & Answer

Well i smoked for 6 or 7 years and i quit pretty cold turkey.. I just stopped being around where people smoke, i started eating more, but i do admit i smoked marijuana my whole time so i did have something to help.. Maybe try chewing gum every time you feel the need to smoke a cigarette or keep candies to chew on.. Try the elastic band technique where you snap the band on your wrist repeatedly until you no longer feel the need.. also baking is a good way to take up your time to not want to smoke.. Just taste everything as your working it really helps.. Start going for walks or even get into a video game that you enjoy, youre never to old to play games :) plus it helped me, i got very addicted to a game which made me not even want to leave my room to have a cigarette.. I dont know if this helps at all but im sorry and I totally understand, i tried to quit for 2 years but finally i knew i just had to.. I will tell you, you will feel great once its accomplished, you will breathe better and your taste buds will even be better :)Health Question & Answer
