What are the causes of heart palpitations?!

Question: What are the causes of heart palpitations.?

Hi,
I am 20yrs old and i get heart palpitations about once a week.. They are not terrible ones but they do worry me as i have no idea why i get them..
I have no history of heart problems and have never had any serious illnesses.. Can anyone tell me what could be causing it.?

- Physical disfunction (unlikely in someone your age)..
- You smoke cigarettes (which can make your heart race, ask me how I know)
- You're a caffeine junky
- You're around a lot of good looking naked people (just kidding)
- You are suffering from occasional mild anxiety

Palpatations can be from an irregular heartbeat.. That is all that really needs to be said, go see you doctor.. They will most likely perform an EKG and/or order a holter monitor (cardiac monitor that records the electrical conduction of your heart over 24 hours), you push a button when you feel like you are having an episode and it time stamps it to highlight that time on the recording..Health Question & Answer
