After being on pain meds that long, I don't think going cold turkey is smart.. Your doctor can either prescribe you a medication like suboxone to help you get off your meds.. The doctor may want to use the weaning method as well.. I think since you've been on those meds for so long, going cold turkey can be very difficult not only physically but mentally and also very dangerous.. Your body was used to having that medication everyday for four years and it's going to be a shock to your system.. I would definitely contact your doctor so that you do this safely..
I've been in your position and I know exactly how you feel.. You'll be able to get through this though because you've already taken the first step.. Be proud of yourself!!!
Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Wow........ i have been there.. Talk honestly with your Dr.. You may need to taper off instead of stopping cold turkey.. Dr's can also prescribe something to help you out during the withdrawl process.. Don't be embarrassed to ask for something to get you though this.. Ask someone to administer the anti-withdrawl med to you because you may become dependent on the new drug if taken improperly..
Don't do what I did which was suffer, than drink alcohol to calm my cravings, and than have a seizure.. Be honest about your withdrawl.. Your not weak if you ask for help.. Good luckHealth Question & Answer
