Question: Is it an abscess.?
Okay, this is kind of scary.. Theres a lump in my cheek right by my chin line.. It hurts really bad.. WebMD says to go to the emergency room for a facial abscess greater of 1 cm but I think mine is just on the edge of that.. My mom wants to schedule me an appt on Monday but I don't know how dangerous this thing is.. Oh it hurts...... I can barely focus on much else.. Can someone help me.?Health Question & Answer

If it hurts that bad then I would just go to the ER or an urgent care outpatient center..LOTS of Dr..'s will take you asap if you tell them that you are in pain..Definately go if you start running fever or vomiting..An abcess in nothing to play around with..If it ruptures then you could be dealing with a major infection..It is better to be safe than sorry!!!!Health Question & Answer

Canker sores and cold sores (fever blisters) are a real "pain in the mouth" for children.. Although they are harmless, during a typical episode the child is uncomfortable and usually experiences trouble eating, drinking, and sleeping.. Canker sores, medically known as "aphthous stomatitis" (from the Greek word aphtha or ulceration), resemble mini-moon craters, with a red rim surrounding a white or yellowish center.. These mouth ulcers, usually the size of a paper punch, are found on the membranes inside the lips, floor of the mouth, inner cheeks, and tongue.. Aphthous stomatitis is very common - one out of two children will have at least one episode in their lifetime..

What causes these sores remains a medical mystery.. Genetics may play a role, since vulnerability to canker sores runs in families.. Current studies suggest many factors may be involved.. The most popular theory is that the ulcers result from an abnormal immune reaction to the mouth
