It does not get digested.. Normally, it would travel through your digestive tract like anything else.. However, in some cases, things that are undigestable such as watermelon seeds, fingernails, etc can get caught in a diverticuli in the intesting and become coated with food, causing it to get bigger and bigger.. Eventually, this could lead to a blockage in your colon.. This is a worst-case scenario, and in most young/healthy people, it's not even an issue.. However, for people with intestinal disorders such as diverticulitis, it is slightly more problematic, although still a small percentage of cases will cause a blockage..

actually i know someone who died from swallowing her nails.. The doctors didn't know what was wrong with her so they did and autopsy and found a huge wad of fingernails clogging her intestines.......... pretty descusting i know...... but I'm sure one little piece won't hurt lolHealth Question & Answer
