It all depends on where you are, and what school you want to go to (I'm sure AMR has their own training entity, but I have no idea about their requirements).. Some schools & states make you get your associates degree prior to becoming a paramedic.. Others don't.. The actual class lasts between 9 months & 2 years (again, depends on the school; the 9-month classes usually run 3-4 days/week, not counting clinicals, whereas the 2-yr classes usually have class 2 days/week, excluding clinicals).. I would personally reccomend being an EMT for about 6 months before getting into a paramedic class.. Absorb everything you can, just to be SURE that's what you want to do (my class started with 14 & finished with 3 students).. Paramedic class is a HUGE committment (we nicknamed it "mini-med-school").. There are hundreds of classroom hours, plus about a thousand hours of clinicals.. Just as an idea, I was going to school all day Tuesday & Thursday, going straight to clinicals after class, working every Saturday, Sunday, and either Friday or Monday, then doing clinicals on Wednesday & either Friday or Monday (whichever I was off).. LITERALLY, every minute I didn't have class or work, I was at the hospital or ambulance doing clinical time..
And one more thought, some schools actually require you to be an EMT for a year prior to accepting your application for medic class..
Hope this helps!Health Question & Answer

Most medic courses run between a year and a year and a half, here in Michigan..

I've heard of a fast paced course taking less than a month, and if I remember correctly, it was in New Mexico.. Don't take my word for it though..Health Question & Answer
