The trick is usually taking drugs before it begins, for which you need to learn to recognise the warning signs for you.. Another thing you can do is to avoid triggers; these are never the same for everyone.. My dad finds white chocolate brings on his migraines, while I find it's black coffee at night..

But common triggers are:
-Red wine
-Chocolate
-Tobacco/cigarette smoke
-Caffeine
-Anything with MSG in it..

Other than that, all you can really do is shut yourself in the dark.. You could try a cold wash cloth or a hot shower to ease it, this works for some people..

They are a pain.. I don't have them very often, but they stop me in my tracks too.. I have to take to my bed for a day and the next two days I feel so tired.. But at the same time, they're not frequent enough that I've ever felt it's worth going to a doctor and I've had them since I was about ten..

I just count myself lucky that I'm not one of those people that get them frequently and have them last for days at a time.. :-D

And the people that come on here saying they have a migraine right now......who are they kidding.? If they're on the computer they are not having a migraine......

What annoys me the most is that people think they're just a 'bad headache'.. Anyone who's truly ever had a migraine, would never say that!Health Question & Answer

Poor you - I can sympathise.. I think it helps to try and establish what causes your migraines - possible triggers include: dehydration, stress, overtiredness, alcohol, stuffy atmospheres, loud noise, unsuitable pillow, certain foods or combinations of foods, such as chocolate, orange juice, or cheese.. Taking Ibuprofen at the first twinge can help, or even taking two before you go to bed if you think you might wake up with a migraine next day.. Migraleve tablets can help.. Otherwise, it's a matter of staying (propped up rather than lying) in a cool, quiet, dark place, & placing a cool cloth on your forehead until you feel better.. If drugs don't work for you you might consider other therapies such as acupuncture.. P..Health Question & Answer

Have you been to your doctor to see about the migraines.? Most over the counter stuff is rubbish for migraine..

I find to treat the pain i used cocodomol 30/500, that needs to be perscribed by the doctor also..
I'm currently taking pizotefin.. I only just started with it though so i cant tell the effects of it just yet and how well its working..

But definately go and see your doctor, make sure your get something to treat the migraine, and the pain as well.. Its horrible not being able to even sleep or move with one!Health Question & Answer

You could ask for medication from your GP but quite often, the tablets have horrible side affects that make you feel just as bad! My doctor told me that taking three aspirin tablets at the same time is a very effective way of treating migraines HOWEVER, you cannot take aspirin if you have stomach problems, ulcers etc as they can irritate the lining of your stomach.. I really do understand how it feels, I get the same - they sometimes last for four days and by the end of it I am exhausted..Health Question & Answer

Hi I also used to get bad migranes my doc gave me Maxalt melts these are wafers that you melt on your tongue, this is not a tablet as they won`t stay down if you`re being sick.. you take one when you get that first sign that you`re about to get an attack.. also he put me on Dixarit tabs these are a mild beta blocker to stop the attack happening, and I`m about 98% better hope this helpsHealth Question & Answer

You could try acupuncture.. My husband used to get very bad migranes very often, he now only has them infrequently.. also, learn to recognise and avoid your triggers - common ones are caffeine, chocolate, cheese, red wine..Health Question & Answer
