Optimally, you want to keep your head in a neutral position when you are sleeping.. This will ensure that your sleeping habits do not contribute to bad posture and will prevent you from waking up with a stiff neck.. It will also ensure that you breath easier whilst you sleep..

By "neutral position", I mean that your head should not be forward or in a backward position when you sleep.. In other words, too many pillows would be bad and no pillow at all may be just as bad, especially if you sleep on your side a lot..

I tell my clients to use a bean bag tube or sock , a really easy way to make it, is go buy a pair of tube socks and fill one of them with pinto beans till they support the contour of your neck and shoulders tie or sew off the end..
