They can be left in for days, weeks, even months if it's needed (people with certain diseases or injuries).. The longer it's in the more of a chance for infection..

So yes, overnight is fine.. But usually after a normal vaginal birth they are removed after delivery so the mom can walk around..Health Question & Answer
