What muscles/tendons attach at the back of the knee that would make jumping or running painful if injured?!

Question: What muscles/tendons attach at the back of the knee that would make jumping or running painful if injured.?
I have been off sports for two months due to some kind of injury at the back of my left knee.. My Dr.. checked for meniscus and ligament damage and said she didn't think there was any.. The pain is on eccentric/retractive movement, not on impact and seems to be located where the gastroc attaches to something - the posterior cruciate maybe.? I do not have knee instability.... What could this be.? I'm itching to get back to running but whenever I try it after time off I end up back in pain for the next two-three days.. Help!Health Question & Answer

I feel that the problem is NOT with ligaments but with the popliteus muscle.. It could be strained.. If you really want things to heal up quickly, I would definitely check in your area for a chiropractor who specializes in athletic injuries.. It WILL make the difference..Health Question & Answer
