Epidural without local anesthetic ?!

Question: Epidural without local anesthetic .?
I just started a going to a pain management Doctor for nerve damage and pain..

He mentioned that this was a procedure that he he does and I just want to know more from others with personal experience with it..
It sounds horrible to me.. From what I understand, they do an epidural with no pain killer before hand........

If you are familiar with this procedure, I would love to hear your response..
