I have a bruise below my knee that has been there for over 10 months. Any ideas on why its still there?!

Question: I have a bruise below my knee that has been there for over 10 months.. Any ideas on why its still there.?
I have had it checked out a few times, but have been given several different answers.. It doesn't cause me any pain to touch it or move my knee, although it did give me a few twinges of pain when i was at my aunties and regularly had to walk up a staircase ( my house doesn't have stairs ).. It is currently a bright greeny blue, and has faded in the past to yellow and brown but always goes back to being blue.. It has grown in size a little bit and is about the size of a 50 cent coin.. I sustained it when i slipped over on floorboards and landed on my knee and also hit it on the floor again a week after i slipped the first time.. I have knocked the area on things a few times since, and other bruises have gone away while this one has remained the same.. If anyone could give me an idea of whats causing this that would be great :) Health Question & Answer

It sounds like the area is being re-injured, either because of something you are doing, or because the bone under it has been damaged and has an area of overgrowth that may be causing internal irritation.. Start by consulting you GP and pointing out how long it has been there.. A large blood clot forming under the skin after an injury can take a long time to dissolve, but 10 months sounds a bit long for that unless it has formed between the bone and the periosteum which is like a fibrous sheath over the bone..Health Question & Answer

Did you put ice on it right after it happened.? If you didn't then you should see a doctor.. Whenever you injure yourself so much that you can see something, always put ice on it immediately and continue with it on and off for the next 12 hours..Health Question & Answer

When I was 12 I had a bruise in about the same spot for months.. I kept on sitting with one leg under me on chairs, so the bruise right on the bony prominence below my knee stayed blue for ages.. Health Question & Answer

Apparently some bruises are just long lasting and can indeed take months to fade.. The repeated banging of the bruise is probably causing repeated bleeding under the skin..Health Question & Answer

10 months.?.?.?.? see a doctor..Health Question & Answer

How long a bruise lasts can vary greatly depending on the location and severity of the trauma that caused the bruise and the health, age, and idiosyncrasies of the individual bruised.. Having said that, the majority of bruises for most people will last from 1 to 4 weeks, although severe bruising can last for months.. I think as you have already gone to see many GP's that you should try some treatments yourself..
I found this one on a website:
1.. If you have a simple bruise, with no other tissue lesions you can apply on that area a bandage soaked in comfrey tea.. Keep it there for one hour.. The tea is easy to prepare: ? l of boiling water adding 30g of comfrey.. Let it rest for 10 minutes.. Do not drink the remaining tea after applying the bandage..

2.. Every 3 hours apply marigold cream on the bruising
zone.. This will prevent an intense bruising from occurring..

3.. Apply bandages made out from cabbage leaves.. Wash the cabbage leaves and then smash them with a roller on a clean surface.. Only then apply them on the bruising area.. Change this natural bandage every 3 hours..

4.. Sometimes if you are fast you can prevent a bruise from forming by applying a cold pack on that area, right after the injury was done..

5.. Another solution would be applying on a towel apple cider vinegar mixed with water on the bruising tissue.. You can reapply this mixture several times a day..
Even though these are great tips that heal bruises and sometimes even stop them from reaching large proportions, you must be realistic and understand that you will never be able to cure a bruise in just one day.. Without any treatment, normally a bruise can cure in 7 to 10 days, depending on the intensity of the tissue
