The official First Aid Training manual for both the St.. John and Red Cross in the UK says that cold water is to be applied to burns and should be run over the burned area for a minimum of 10 minutes.. Ice does indeed bring its own problem - as ridiculous as this sounds, it can burn the tissues and will hinder the healing process..

I would favour cold water - ice COULD bring its own problems along - but I doubt whether it would make much difference given that the ice available in a domestic environment is not going to be hyper-cold..Health Question & Answer

Cold water is better as it quickly cools the burn.. There is a possiblity of damaging the skin under the burn with ice..Health Question & Answer

Cold water.. You need to stop the burn..Health Question & Answer
