I also like to read to fall asleep.. You need to read something relaxing and interesting, so that you are not thinking about anything serious: either mysteries or romances, or whatever is pure entertainment for you.. Don't read self-help or scary or too-serious books, which make you think too much.. I read until I can't stay awake, and then I put the book down and nod off..

also, I agree about the room needing to be cool, where you can put on a light cover.. Too hot, and you will toss and turn..

If you have serious unresolved issues, you might try to get those worked out before bed, especially when you are angry with someone.. Things like that will definitely keep you awake..

One thing NOT to do: drink wine.. I tried that, and you have to drink more and more for it to work.. You sound young, so it is probably not something you might do anyway, but you can remember that for the future..

As for your parents making you go to bed too early...... if a discussion with them doesn't do any good, and you are sleeping longer than 9-10 hrs.., more than 10 hrs.. is unnecessary, so you could try getting up earlier, even if you don't like it at first.. You can get a lot done then, or relax after getting ready for your day.. Just a thought..Health Question & Answer

I used to have the same problem but i have gotten through it
here are some tips to help you sleep

-An hour before you go to sleep stop watching tv and dont get on the computer.. they tend to keep you wide awake

-take a warm bath or shower..

-make sure your room is cool.. turn on the air conditioning or open your windows if it is cool outside.. people sleep better when the air temp.. is on the cooler side

-since you have so many thoughts running through your head, before you go to sleep write everything down that is bothering you..

-if you are scared or think of scary things it doesnt hurt to use a night light or turn on your light in your closet

Develop a bedtime routine.. Things that work to soothe are: a warm bath, low lights, soothing music, white noise (a fan, ocean or water sounds).. You can also buy some body wash or bubble bath like soothing nighttime wash, and the aromas help to relax you.. Don't exercise too close to bed-time, don't drink anything caffeinated (coke, tea, coffee) close to bedtime, and don't watch TV to fall asleep.. Reading a comforting book can be a good way to help induce sleep.. And work on just lying still in the quiet, and focus on relaxing each individual muscle gradually..Health Question & Answer

i used to be like this too.. i read an article in self and it said a few things.. you should doo before you sleep.. first, make a list of things you are doing tomorrow, or things you have to remember, maybe pick out cloathes for the next day the night before if you think about that.. also not to watch tv too late because id wakes up your eyes and makes it harder to slep.. it said reading before you go to bed can also help.. and for the nightmares, maybe a nightlight.. that is something you have to overcome yourself..Health Question & Answer

i would do something calming before bed......and make it a routine: for example:
1.. yoga stretches
2.. music meditation
3.. bath with bath salts and lavender oil
Note: do not do things in bed that isn't sleep oriented.. For example: don't read or write in bed, don't eat in bed, don't play cards in bed etc...... and go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning.. Usually people sleep in on the weekends but it ruins their internal clock.. I suggest that if you wake up during the week at 7 then stick to it all week long..
I hope this helpsHealth Question & Answer

I know exactly what you mean.. Sometimes it's a great song, sometimes it's the **** I should have done.. Obviously you want to forget those things.. I always breathe in deeply in and out for a while and usually that makes me more tired.. If all else fails think about work and you'll be asleep in no time..Health Question & Answer

You have to limit the amount of soda, coffee, or tea that you drink at night because of the caffiene.. also try to develop a routine of when you go to bed.. For example, try going to sleep at a certain time every night.. Hopefully this helps.. Health Question & Answer
