I am just wondering, will they put me to sleep for this?!

Question: I am just wondering, will they put me to sleep for this.?
I will be going in for a surgery soon to have a cyst under my chin removed.. I still have to get a CAT scan to see how deep it goes and blood tests done.. Do they typically put you to sleep for this.? I am assuming they will because of the blood tests, but I want to know for sure.. Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It will depend on how deep it is..If it's just under the skin, then they may just numb the area with a local anesthetic, but if it goes deeper, they wil probably use a general anesthesia, which is pretty cool,I have to say!! Nothing to worry about..I had my gall bladder out and the anesthesia was the best part!!Health Question & Answer

Not necessarily.. I used to work in a surgery center.. They did R&R surgeries on people with a local anesthetic.. They'd just numb the site and cut it out, probably with a shield over your face so you couldn't see.. I had one cut off my nose once and I watched the whole thing.. I liked watching surgeries, but, you may not want to watch.. Your pre-op nurse will tell you what to expect.. I'm not saying they will or they won't, but, I doubt they do.. General Anesthesia is rough on some people (me!!).. I got sick every time I have been under general anesthesia..

Add: Remember, this is just THIS facility and what they do.. Your doctor may do differently..

EXCISION OF SKIN LESIONS / CYSTS / LIPOMAS / SCAR REVISION

PROCEDURE (local anesthesia)

Excision biopsy of nevi & other benign skin lesions
Excision biopsy of malignant skin lesions & local flap reconstruction
Excision biopsy of sebaceous cysts/ lipomas
Scar revision
Recovery time: 1 to 2 days

Good luck and please let us know how it goes and how you are!Health Question & Answer

it kind of depends.. they might do it.. and they might on.. usually on younger patients they put you all the way under but then again i don't work at a hospital and I'm 15 years old.. let me just say i was in the hospital for 5 days after surgery and i only remember being wheeled out the door on the fifth day.. drugs these days are wonderful things.. either way you probably wont remember much about the procedure if you are awake.. good luck.. i know how nerve wracking it is to go through this.. look at it this way.. at least you didn't have to spend 2 months in a wheel chair, 1 month on crutches and 3 months of physical therapy to learn how to reuse your leg properly.. you should be fine and good luck.. Health Question & Answer

regardless the drugs will be good enough that you wont feel a thing and will be very happy asleep or not.. i had problems back in 97 and they could not put me asleep for a bone biopsy on my femur in my thigh, (they drilled a hole 1 inch wide the whole way through) i was (i think, was told) awake the whole time, and did not care.. felt real good.. but i don't remember.. this is what the nurse told me.. please let us know how you did and we will all be thinking about you.. and if i can do it you can, Health Question & Answer

for the CAT you probably wont..
My dad had to get a CAT and so did my Uncle neither of them got drugged..
I am pretty dang sure you will get drugged for the surgery..
I dont think you will be drugged for the blood tests ( I wasn't when I had to get my blood tested )..
