Cartilage.? Is that the top bit of your ear.? If so, it doesn't hurt a bit...... I'm not just saying that.... I had it done when I was like 14 and I was worried cuz I thought it would hurt alot because cartilage is quite hard, but it hurt LESS than getting my earlobes pierced!!! Weird right.... It felt/sounded like a click and then it was done.. I'd recommend it over earlobe piercing, pain-wise.. good luck to her.. Health Question & Answer
