i have had a very similar problem...... from years of competitive cheerleading, my knee cap was severly damaged and the ligaments and tendons holding it in place were loose this was causing my kneecap to continusly dislocate and my knee to give out frequently......

this started becoming a problem after i injured my knee while playing beach volleyball in June of 07 and was told that it was just a "sprianed" MCL......however it never healed so despite months and months of PT and many cortisone shots...... then in March of 08 my knee completely gave out and i had thought that i had torn my ACL and reinjured my MCL however.... that is when the problem with my knee cap was discovered(after another round of failed PT and cortisone......as well as a 4th MRI, and 3 different orthopeadic specialists)

so on June 5th i had surgery to correct the dislocation problem by cutting the tight outer tender and tightening the loose inner tendon holding my knee cap in place, he also had to shave the destroyed cartilage off the back of my kneecap as well as some bone too...... as well as shave away a minor tear in my meniscus....

my suggestion is to see an orthopeadist and get and MRI of ur knee...... u may need to have surgery if the problem continuesHealth Question & Answer

I have had it since I was about 16.. A real bummer is the best way to protect your knee is not ever wear heels.. Don't run on hard surfaces (or any surfaces really)

Hydrotherapy is great for pain relief as well as healing.. And you really need to be an an anti-arthritis diet.. there are cook books available in Australia where I live from the Arthritis Foundation but I am sure there are similar ones in your country..

Acupuncture might be very helpful.. It was for me.. you just have to protect it and perhaps even think about a knee replacement while you are still young and can heal and recover well..Health Question & Answer
