I think I broke my toe and I leave for basic training in a week.?!

Question: I think I broke my toe and I leave for basic training in a week..?
Okay, so I was barefoot in my house yesterday and slammed my foot into a door as I walked past. I'm pretty sure I broke my pinkie toe. It's a little swollen and purple, and it hurts when I put weight on it or bend it too far. I've already taped it to my other healthy toe. It hurts when I walk, and definitely hurts when I run. The problem: I leave for Army Basic Training in a week. I've researched broken toes, and found out that they heal in 4-6 weeks. Basic Training lasts 9 weeks. This is unacceptable. So my question is what to do. Should I tell my recruiter.? What will happen if I can't go to basic training.?Health Question & Answer

If you are having a lot of pain still when walking or wearing shoes I would suggest you get it x-rayed... if it's not broke then you can go, but if it is broken then you will need to see about getting your date pushed back a few weeks. this is because at basic you'll be doing nothing but standing, walking, running, and carrying heavy packs. you'll also be wearing boots which are not soft and cushy like athletic shoes. most people who break a toe will be put on soft shoe profile which means that you can't wear boots and your activities will be limited. If you are excited to go make sure that you are in proper physical condition before you ship out. if this means waiting 2 more weeks then it's worth it... trust me, you'll have enough pain w/ blisters and bruised feet that will make you cry just putting your feet on the floor barefoot. don't go w/ a broken toe. yes, you do have to "suck it up" when you're in the army ( i am, and do) but they don't want you to just push through injuries if it means that you'll be making things worse. they push people on profile just for bad blisters. You should get it xrayed to make sure there are no floaty bits. You're going to have to toughen up for basic training though, I don't think you get special treatment because of a broken pinkie toe.Health Question & Answer

yeah, definitely talk to your recruiter, he may be able to push the date back, but probably will need a doctors note or something.... cuz lots of people, "get hurt" because they just change their minds.Health Question & Answer
