I just took an entire dose of Nyquil because I still have a slight cold from last weekend.

Answers:
Doxylamine succinate is one of the ingredients that is an antihistamine that can make you sleepy. Now if you take too much then this can also cause hallucinations or a "high, trippy" feeling. Ironically in nursing school i took too much (accidentally) and felt very trippy while trying to study for finals. Not fun!

Yes, Nyquil makes you tired. It says right on the bottle. It takes a little while to kick in usually, depending on your size. You will feel drowsy, and your cold should feel better. People abuse it because it tends to "mess them up" and can cause a "great" feeling. Side effects, drowsiness most def, and it has been known to make me feel a little groggy when waking up after taking it.Health Question & Answer
Yeah, it generally makes you tired. Once my mom woke up with the bottle and dosing cap still in her hand. Of course they changed the formula (thanks meth-heads) and it doesn't "work" anymore. So it doesn't make you the "same" tired. I take two doses anyway but follow the instructions.Health Question & Answer

It has alcohol in it. That's what makes you tired. Go grab a beer or something. That'd likely have more effect.
