He wore a kydex jacket for 2-3 months. he had two surgeries. 1 to put metal (fusion)in and the other to remove it. it all started on 4/23/08. he is on the floor again right now (fell outta chair) when i try to get him up he screams. Unfortunately this may be permanent. It is quite possible that the hardware is pressing into the nerve roots that exit through the spine. That is indeed very painful, and I would talk to the orthopedic surgeon to see if this is what is causing the pain. It should be noted that 48% of all people who have back surgeries do have chronic pain even afterwards.Health Question & Answer

Its possible he did more damage to his spine. It certainly wouldnt be a bad idea to take him back to the hospital and get it checked out. There is definatly a possibility of chronic pain but screaming pain is something differant. Ive always asked patients how their pain is on a scale of 1-10 (ten being me cutting their arm off with a dull ax). Most of them change their answer to something lower then a ten. However if he is saying that its really that bad then it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to go and get it checked out. Its not gona hurt anything to just find outHealth Question & Answer

He could be in pain for the rest of his life.... being paralyzed doesn't mean you don't feel pain whether it's real or imaginary... he could be experiencing pain from the upper torso area as well. Unless you have undergone such a traumatic accident, you have no idea how much pain is involved.... nor how long it might OR MIGHT NOT be until he stops feeling pain... He could have hurt himself when he took the tumble from the chair as well. He's been through a HELL of a lot in only a few months time... after all, April was only 6 months ago... it takes a very long time for a person to HEAL from the wounds he suffered physically as well as emotionally... Give him all the time he needs and try to be patient.... remember, his life was changed FOR THE WORSE and FOREVER ...Health Question & Answer

Oh for crying out loud. Call the ambulance to help him get to the hospital. He probably re-broke something.Health Question & Answer
