Is it possible to "dry drown" on saliva?!

On the Oprah show yesterday, the topic of dry drowning was discussed. Apparently, if you breathe in a small amount of liquid and it gets into your lungs, you can "dry drown" and die a horrible painful death, to be blunt. I know this is an extremely rare occurence and the Oprah show made it sound much more common than it is, but it got me thinking. Can you dry drown on saliva.? If you were sleeping and inhaled saliva or even drank something and had it go down the wrong pipe, could you dry drown from that.?Health Question & Answer
