I need help figuring out my MRI results?!

Question: I need help figuring out my MRI results.?
I had an MRI done on Saturday and I just got the results today, however the Doctor said I was fine! I am wondering if I should get a second opinion after getting these results....The results are as follows:
Mild, Chronic T11,T12,L1 and L2 Schmorl's nodes....
At T11-T12 broad based annulus bulge efface the ventral thecal sac....
Annulus bulges are noted L1-2 through L5-S1

Can someone please tell me what this means! I would really appreciate it....Thanks in advance for any information you could give me!Health Question & Answer

Hey Anita,

I really think you should go in for a second opinion. It sounds fishy. Schmorl's nodes could be the source of back pain (sometimes people are born with them or they are caused from back injuries). I was looking on wikipedia- and just regularly exercising could also help (possibly). With everything that is going on, it seems that there is something NOT fine. I hope you figure out some HELPFUL information.

After an expensive MRI, that doctor should really know what he's doing!

edit: I don't really appreciate people pretty much saying that I have no idea what I'm talking about. Just trying to help, because there does sound to be something peculiar about her MRI. It doesn't sound normal for a 24 year old, maybe if she was in her 40s-50s! Why would Anita be in such pain if there is nothing wrong.?Health Question & Answer

I agree with answer #3. I have issues with my spine and am familiar with the terminology. You have normal wear and tear on your spine. There are some discs that are slightly bulging but not bulging enough to cause any problems. Your Doc is right..your spine looks fine according to the MRI. There may be a few little twinges of pain or pinching at times but nothing bad and nothing that has shown up on the scan.

Google some of the terms if you want a better explanation of the terms used

also this is a good site written by a Chiro. Doc about back pain, he explains alot of things in easy to understand words..

Hydrotherapy/water therapy/water exercises from a physio would be of great benefit to you.Good luck.Health Question & Answer

How old are you .? this can be normal wear and tear on your spine. You should have got a letter with this to explain what's going on.
In the first place your doctor should have explained it to you. Get a second opinion.

The legs are another matter, the pain may be relieved with Requip. Another try is ice.

Go see another doctor, bring the X-Rays with.Health Question & Answer

These are all mild to chronic issues within your thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, why would your doc say you are completely fine and give you the results in hand that say otherwise.? I recommend a second opinion. This sounds weird that he would do this. Health Question & Answer

This might not be the best place to ask a question like this. with that said , I'll do my best to answer anyway. Much of it depends on a number of factors.

Everything mentioned above can be "normal" as the spine ages and it gets more wear and tear or suffers some abuse. With apologies to the previous post... these results do not say that you are unhealthy, they simply reflect the normal wear and tear a spine gets throughout our lives.

As to what exactly it means, it can get very detailed so i'll try to keep it short. A Schmorl node is simply a part of a disc pushing into a vertibrae.. again, this is very common, especially as we age.

The annulus bulge is a little harder to explain. pretend you're looking at your disc from the top down. The annulus is like the outside wall holding everything in. If the entire disc gets damaged or the wall gets weakened, it will bulge out. A lot of docs will start calling them herniations when they get too big.

As long as you aren't leaking fluid, or your "wall" is very weak, you're fine. Additionally, your doc wanted to make sure that the bulge isn't pushing against the nerves that branch off the spinal cord (this is probably what they were looking for because you mentioned the pain). there is nothing, based on what you posted above, to indicate that the bulges are causing the pain.Health Question & Answer
