Extreme migraine or what?!

Question: Extreme migraine or what.?
I am 20 years old, healthy and i exercise a little.. i wouldnt say im in perfect shape but im not in bad shape. I am in the 4th day of my period and i am experiencing one of the worst headaches of my life, like the ones i used to get before i got glasses, only a million times more intense. Its a heavy pressure from the top of my head with pain behind my eyes and slight nausea. Sometimes i get a little dizzy too. Im on Adderal so ive been accounting the dizziness to that, however the nausea and debilitating head ache have never been a problem for me. When i lay down to sleep and when i shut my eyes it seems worse. the only thing that seems to help is to push pressure on the top of my head but i can not sleep like that. Ive taken aspirin and my ambian and still can not sleep. This has been going on for my entire period but today is the WORST. please help.?Health Question & Answer

I am not a doctor and I have no experience in the medical field. I do, however, suffer from migraines and am on prescription for them. When I have a really bad headache, but not a migraine (once you have them, you know the difference) I use Naproxen Sodium -- I think it's the same as "Alieve". It is in the same family as ibuoprofen and it really seems to help more than asprin or tylenol. I would also suggest you drink at least 16 oz of water. For one, you could be dehydrated, but for two, it will help flush whatever is in your system. You could also try some neck exercises to try to release the tension in your muscles. Neck mobility and muscle relaxation is key to almost any kind of severe headache.

You mentioned dizziness -- do you have any kind of visual difficulties.? Many people who get migraines also experience "auras" which I think looks like when you look into a bright light or a flash bulb of a camera. Once you look away from the light, you still see the light and its hard to see what's really in front of you. That's one indication of a migraine, but it's not a guarantee.

There a great book called the Headache Cure -- it helps to diagnose and control your headaches. Not that a book will help you right now in the middle of a head ache, but you might want to check it out or search it online. It will help you to understand the different types of headaches (which helps you know how to control it). Health Question & Answer
