Which is worse for newborn? Mold in our carpet or cheap carpet that out-gasses toxic chemicals?!

Question: Which is worse for newborn.? Mold in our carpet or cheap carpet that out-gasses toxic chemicals.?
We live in the basement apartment for which we still have 5 month on our lease. We just had a flood that resulted in mold in the carpets (which they were supposed to have had replaced already but have not) and some mold on the drywall. They are coming to replace the carpet on Monday. I expect to be delivering newborn within next 2 days. I studied the carpet they will be installing (the cheap kind) and it almost seems more toxic than the mold. We have no other place to go. Should we tell them to skip the carpet installation until we can find a place to move to or should we get the carpet replaced.?Health Question & Answer

Take the new carpet and get some house plants. Philidendron and Spider Plants and especially good at pulling toxins out of the environment.Health Question & Answer

Oh, wow that is a tough situation to be in. Can you possibly just have your hubby take up and throw out the carpeting instead.? If you have wood floors under the existing carpeting, it will be healthier for both you and your newborn to have a clean environment. I totally agree that the fumes off new carpets are noxious so personally I would hold off on any installations for now. I hope that your landlord will accomodate your requests. Good luck with everything. Health Question & Answer
