If I've taken 7 of my 10 day treatment of clindamycin, would it be ok to go ahead and quit taking it?!

Question: If I've taken 7 of my 10 day treatment of clindamycin, would it be ok to go ahead and quit taking it.?
I've been taking clindamycin for a spider bite, and I've completed most of my dose. The bite is healing well, but I'm starting to develop a rash on my arms and face. Should I go ahead and quit taking it because I've completed most of the round of antibiotics, and I think the infection is gone; at least gone enough to where I shouldn't start on a different antibiotic. Any advice from someone who has taken clindamycin or who knows more about it would be greatly appreciated.Health Question & Answer

first you should never stop taking an antibiotic because then you build resistance and then it won't work for you again in the future. But, since you stated that you have a rash also now, you should call your doctors office, i know its the weekend but someone who answers will be able to get in touch with your doctor who can call you and give you the proper adviceHealth Question & Answer

No, it would not be okay to stop taking it. You get a full ten days of medicine because that is what it takes to be certain you have eliminated the infection. It takes about 3-4 days for antibiotics to really mount an attack, and 3-4 days days more to really get the upper hand. There could still be some of the gerbies who had some resistance laying around, and if you quit taking the antibiotics now- they will reproduce a new generation with even more resistance. Take the full ten days. If the rash has you nervous, call the doctor for advice. The rash may or may not be related to the antibiotic, and I don't know if they actually confirmed an infection or not. But the point is, you don't want to leave anything half killed. That's one of the big reasons we have the problems with antibiotic resistant germs now- people quit taking the antibiotics before they were finished.Health Question & Answer

No, you need to finish off the entire prescription. Just because you feel better, doesn't necessarily mean that all the bacteria is dead, just enough that you don't feel bad anymore. If you stop taking it, and the infection comes back, you run the risk of getting not only a worse infection, but one that will be resistant to antibiotics and therefore unable to be treated. This is known as acquired antibiotic resistance and is one of the main reasons that we have "Superbugs" out there like MRSA. Finish off the medication, or at least call you doctor first, but they're going to say the same thing.Health Question & Answer

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! The biggest cause of antibiotic resistant AKA MRSA is due to patient incompliance with medications like stopping antibiotic treatment. If you stop now even though you're feeling better the bacteria is in your body and it can re activate b/c you haven't killed it all. There is a reason for it to be given to youfor that long. If you think that you're more knowledgable than your doctor then you should be in medical school. They wouldn't rx it that long if there wasn't a reason. Health Question & Answer

I am allergic to that med also. 7 Days is sufficient. Although the bad news is that the rash is going to get much worse before it gets any better, EVEN if you stop taking the med now...So my suggestion: Stop taking it. Your infection has been treated and now you have to live through an annoying rash.Health Question & Answer

NO.
Always finish a med unless you have an allergic reaction.
The infection has a head start if you don't finish the meds!Health Question & Answer
