I think you would lose conciousness (from rush of blood to the head) before anything more serious occurred. It (losing consciousness, such as fainting) is usually the body's way of preventing any further damage - such as brain damage - under a lot of circumstances.

Does this have to do with the stunt that David Blaine is going to attempt next week.? To answer your question, blindness is a possibility and I would assume a whole other host of central nervous system and circulation issues too from all the blood rushing to the individuals head.
