I took my son to see our G.P today and while I was there I noticed...?!

Question: I took my son to see our G.P today and while I was there I noticed....?
that he took my son's temperature with a thermometer that did not come from a sterile packet. It only became obvious when I saw him take it, read my boy's temp and just rinse it under a tap before it went in his bag, ready for my son's chest infection to be passed to the next patient. Surely there are rules stating it must be sterile.?.? I have gotten tattoos that have had 100 times more hygiene than this doctor!!!Health Question & Answer

Where abouts in Brighton.? Sounds like my Dr!!!! LOL. Everything should be sterilised before being used on the next patient. When you say he put it is back in his bag, was this a home visit.? if he put it back in his bag, he will likely sterilise it when he returns to the surgery.

Oh this was in his surgery.? If it was me I'd write a letter to the practise manager. This is very poor practise. This might have been acceptable 40 years ago, but not today. My GP brushes his teeth in the surgery room. One time, I noticed there were speculum's in the sink (metal ones, they don't seem to use the plastic ones at my surgery) waiting to be sterilised, and his toothbrush was sitting by the side of the sink!!I bet we have the same guy.Health Question & Answer

You need to report this to the Canadian Medical Protective Association. But my doctor's nurse uses a white thermometer that makes a sound when the temp is reached. It works fast and has disposable plastic covers. I noticed that she has a way of flipping the disposable cover off into the trash so fast you wouldn't even know it if you weren't watching. Could this be the case.? I can't imagine a doctor in this day and age using a regular thermometer, standing there and waiting to read it. also this could be a mercury thermometer which are banned because the mercury is toxic. If this is the case I hope that you would also talk to another doctor within the group that he practices. And never see him again! Good Luck to you and I'm sorry your son is sick.Health Question & Answer

I live in Brighton. Would love to know which practice this is - to avoid it! Change surgeries now!
Had an odd GP here once (now deceased) when taking a BP looked very puzzled, found a different stethoscope, looked more puzzled.
Finally it dawned, he said he had been picking up the bass beat from music in the basement flat.
I've always wondered...Health Question & Answer

i would call someone but there has to be laws and stuff like that cause thats just not right. try calling them and tell them about it, and if they dont do anything about it call the policeHealth Question & Answer

The thermometer should have been cleaned with alcohol. And the Doctor should have put a cover over it!

This would make me very uncomfortable. And I would seek a new Doctor!Health Question & Answer

I would be looking for another Dr. This one does not practice medicine properly. Don't let him give you or your child a shot.Health Question & Answer
