How would you know if pinky toe is broken?!

Question: How would you know if pinky toe is broken.?
after a martial arts class, i noticed my pinky toe really hurt, about an hour later there was bruising and maybe an hour after that the pinky toe swelled up. It hurt very badly for the first two days, but now on the third day it hurts only when pressure is applied to certain places on the toe. I can walk on it, but if a shoe hits it hurts enough to be uncomfortable. it is still bruised infact even more than on the first day, and is still swollen. I can move it a little bit but due to the swelling this is minimal. Does it sound like i've broken my toe, or its just really bruised or sprained.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
The bones in your toes are really small and it does sound like you've broken it. You can't do much now except use ice, taken ibuprofen, aspirin or tylenol for pain and swelling, and rest. Your best bet is to stay off of it even now, try not to wear shoes, or if you have some old shoes, cut a side out of it to give your foot some room. It's going to take 2-4 weeks to heal, longer if you keep walking/stressing it.Health Question & Answer

If you are worried or in pain you should go get it checked out by a Doctor, go to the emergency room, that's what they are there for.

There is nothing much that can be done for broken toes, so it doesn't matter if it is broken or just bruised. Of course, I mean unless your toe is hanging off your foot or a bone is punching through your skin. Bruising takes a while to get better. Wear a sandal or some kind of flat, firm shoe that doesn't touch your toe. Walk kind of flat footed.

I went to my podiatrist about a week after the first time I broke a toe. He said if I'd come to him earlier, he would have had me put ice, etc on it and it would have felt better much sooner. He tried to tape it to the next toe but that was more painful than the break.

Since it is healing so fast, I'll bet it's just bruised.Health Question & Answer
