Question: I broke my wrist and now i just got my cast off and it is sore. How can i reduce soreness. would ice help.?
Answers:
All joints are stiff when they come out of plaster and this is normal.
Stiffness is painful but as you use the wrist and hand more the stiffness will subside and the muscles will strengthen as function returns.

Take regular painkillers and see a physiotherapist to be taught the correct range of movement exercises to do.
I would recommend heat rather than ice (unless it is particularly swollen, a little swelling is normal!).
Exercising the hand in warm water can also help. Do the washing up, drying up etc, it is all good functional exercise.

I would predict that in a week you will be feeling a lot happier but the strength may take several weeks /months to fully recover.

Take care, hope this helps.
Health Question & Answer

It may be sore from lack of use. You should start doing some hand exercises to start working all those unused muscles. I put a link below for a site that shows some basic easy hand exercises. Ice alternating with heat would be good (15-20 minutes each hour), and use some pain meds for any inflammation and pain.

Do the exercises, use heat first to limber up the hand, then do the exercises, and follow the exercises with ice. One of the easiest things you can do right now is get a small ball or roll up some socks and hold it in your hand then squeeze and let go, and repeat that a few times.Health Question & Answer

It could be sore because of lack of use. Talk to your orthopedist about what exercises/stretches you should do to help with this. Advil or tylenol should temporarily relieve the pain.Health Question & Answer

I'd suggest masturbating. It will work out your wrist muscles, and it's like getting a hand job from a stranger. Win win.Health Question & Answer
