Answers:
I don't think you have much choice. You can't be positive you don't have a fracture without an x-ray. It only takes a small fall and stopping yourself with your hands to achieve a fracture. I fell the end of July, waited 3 weeks and finally went to the doctor. After the x-ray and MRI they found that I knocked cartilage off of one of the bones and now have bone on bone. My son fell off a pogo stick and fractured his wrist several years ago. It sounds like your injury happened in a much more rigorous fall. Please go see a doctor. They can rule out a fracture and help you with whatever the injury is. There are so many tendons and ligaments in there you could have done some real damage. If you can't use it you need to be checked out.

Good Luck Health Question & Answer

The only way to be sure is with an x-ray. There is often swelling, and sometimes visible dislocation, with a fracture, but not always. It could be that you have pulled a ligament, or suffered some internal bruising, but I wouldn't take the chance. An untreated fracture can set out of line, causing permanent disability in the joint. There is also a chance that the fracture will be open enough to leave a jagged edge which can cause serious injury inside the wound site, and possibly even cause septicaemia or a blood clot.
