Question: I had an operation to relieve the swelling in my arm, it was a cut from my hand right up , whats is it called..?
I cut a main artery and had an operation to graft my artery, the swelling was really severe so the surgeon cut from my hand right up to my bicep to help relieve the pressure, does anyone know what this procedure is called, I remember the surgeon referring to it but cant remember what the clinical name was.Health Question & Answer

You may be referring to a fasciotomy, or compartment release. When the muscles in a compartment swell up, then the tough outer lining, or fascia, can restrict the swelling, leading to compressive effects on the muscle, nerves and blood vesels in the area. If you wait too long, it can lead to permanent damage. Sounds like they were looking out for your best interests.Health Question & Answer
