I am a nurse, and unfortunately we do see these cases often. The best thing is to let your daughter have the GI scope done. They probably want to check for an ulcer, or something of that nature. I've helped do GI's on several patients when I was in nursing school, and it's true, they don't remember any of it, or feel anything. Hopefully she'll be ok, and maybe they can get you an answer. The rectal exam was done to check for bleeding, or blood in the stool. That's the first warning sign of internal bleeding. Glad it came out ok. Good luck with the rest of it! Gallbladder or apendicitis.?Health Question & Answer

I know it is hard to deal with a child who isn't well and know one knows why. I think you are doing the right thing to rule out any digestive disorders.

You said she has seen a therapist and nothing is going on. Did she change schools.? Or did something happen at school that she can't come to terms with or was told she must keep it a secret or something bad might happen to her family.?

In any case, I wish you and your family the best.Health Question & Answer

My daughter started developing stomach problems like you described. We thought all of the same things you did. We tried dairy free, lactaid, pepto, maalox. She had all the tests, all negative. She would be like your daughter, crying in pain. She started missing a lot of school. She lost about 20 pounds in several months. We had her in counseling. It did turn out being the wheat. She did not have celiac disease but gluten intolerance. It took longer than a week to start to see improvement. After a few months she was pain free. She started eating small amounts of wheat recently and had no side effects. After eating more and more she irritated her intestinal tract again and is again in pain. She is now again gluten free. It is all about moderation. It is a difficult diet to get use to. But it will be life long for my daughter. I wish you luck with your daughter and hopefully they will find out what is wrong soon.Health Question & Answer
