The nurse is right. I totally ripped up my toe the other week. It too needed stitches that I did not get. The end of my toe and the loose skin turned all grey. I kept it super clean. I aired it out as much as possible. I kept antibiotic ointment on it. It is great!! The grey skin eventually pealed away leaving healthy skin! It took about 2 1/2 weeks.

If the area around the injury begins to get a ring of red around it that grows and becomes more tender, you may need an antibiotic. also, when was your last tetnis shot.? You need one of those also, but they are good for 10 years.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer

that piece of skin is dead....was cut off from blood flow. Will fall off as the gash heals....worry if areas that should still have blood flow are grey or if you get redness or swelling. Usually when ive gotten cuts that have that kind of skin flap i up pulling or cutting it off (is dead skin....as long as cut or tear it where it is dead, you dont feel it and it causes no further injury) Just mine are usually razorblade cuts on fingers so smaller (work hazard and im a klutz) and the flaps bug me and i always feel are keeping me from keeping it as clean as i could be..Health Question & Answer

I'm a nurse, and the first thing I'd think of is the fact that that part of the skin is dead, and has no blood flow to it. Which is normal, and will come off in a day or two. BUT if you're having pus come out of the site, or it's getting red and inflamed, you need to go back to the Dr. Hopefully they put you on antibiotics to prevent infection, if not you may need to go get some. What.?.? You had a NURSE give you the advise that a doctor should give.? That is against the medical code of ethics--and she didn't look at it, to boot. Get thee to an emergency room or clinic, pronto.Health Question & Answer
