i was waling my dog, and tripped, and fell on it in a funny way. i can't put my had in a fist or move my fingers much. it is quite swollen and bruisedand it really hurts especially when something touches it really lightly. do you think it could be broken.?Health Question & Answer

I broke my hand a year ago. I had instantaneous swelling and an enormous amount of pain. I did not have any bruising and I could move my hand and fingers. A day later it hurt every now and then, but not too badly so I thought it was fine...It wasn't until four days later that the swelling went down and I could see the bone was cracked - My metacarpal was badly fractured. My point is, everyone will have different symptoms...
If your hand became swollen right after your fall, and since there is bruising, I would definitely go to the hospital and get and x-ray. It doesn't take long - I was in and out of the ER in an hour on a Friday night. It's better to get it checked out right away. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
