I am pretty sure my mom is having serious side effects to her antibiotics?!

Question: I am pretty sure my mom is having serious side effects to her antibiotics.?
She is taking Bactrim DS and has a temperature of 104, skin rash, chills, muscle pain, nausea and is oddly tired. I am going to school to be a pharmacy technician so I recognized the side effects.

She is is refusing to call the doctor because she says he will say to go to the ER and my mom doesn't have health insurance. What should she do.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I think her condition is serious enough to merit medical attention, although I'm not convinced it is due to a side effect of her antibiotic. Her primary illness, not the medication, would be more likely to cause the fever and other symptoms. She may be getting septic. Try to bring down the fever with tylenol but she really needs to be seen by a doctor. It will be much more expensive to treat her if she gets really sick and needs to be in intensive care. Is the skin rash because of the antibiotics.? If so, she needs to stop taking them immediately and call the doctor for some different ones. If she starts having trouble breathing call 911 immediately. The temp, chills and muscle pain is probably related to whatever infection she has. The doctor won't make her go to the ER as long as she isn't having trouble breathing. Tell her to call the doctor. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

You could call the pharmacy that filled the drug and ask to speak with the pharmacist. You know this since you are going to school to be an assistant. Your mother can go to the ER and then when the bill comes, call the billing dept and they WILL work with her to reduce the bill or if her finances are slim, they will write the whole bill off. She absolutely needs to go to the hospital with those side effects as they are bad and could become worse. Many states also have programs that she may be eligible for to reduce her copays for admissions, medications, and appointments. If she refuses to go the ER, she very well could end up in the morgue.Health Question & Answer

SHE IS HAVING A SEVERE REACTION!!!!
but she doesnt want to go to the hospital.?.?

Go to your phone book, and look up an urgent care center near you... they are like hospitals, in the sense that you dont have to have an appointment, and can just walk in. They are different in two ways:
#1. They are NOT as busy, so they can see her sooner.. she really needs to get help.. if her fever hits 105 she could suffer brain damage, or die. (not to scare you). #2. Because an Urgent Care Center doesnt have as much staff to pay, it is generally about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of going to the ER... and is also financially a good choice. Health Question & Answer
