Could an accident I had a few months ago trigger vertigo?!

Question: Could an accident I had a few months ago trigger vertigo.?

Not the fear of heights, but viral ear infection with dizziness.
I was in a car accident, sitting in the back middle seat and got thrown to the left and right of the car.

An accident will not lead to a viral ear infection, but it may have caused a condition called BPPV. Take a look at http://www.tchain.com/otoneurology/disor... and if this all seems familiar, give the Brandt-Daroff exercises a go.Health Question & Answer

Yes, this could happen.

It sounds very much like you were 'thrown about' in the back of the car, indeed 'shaken' as it were and depending on how vigorous this was, I reckon that there could have been a delayed reaction to the accident. It does seem odd though that there has been a 'few months' passage between cause and effect but this sort of delay, although rare, is not totally unknown.

Perhaps your GP could refer you to an ear, nose and throat specialist if you need some assurance and real peace of mind.Health Question & Answer

The accident could have caused vertigo but that would have happened very shortly afterwards. Infections of the inner ear do cause vertigo but, unfortunately, antibiotics are ineffective when it's a viral infection. You should be back to normal within two weeks but, if not, make another appointment with your physician.Health Question & Answer

i would say yes, since i had vertigo too after a bumper car ride.

it was 2 days after, that night, when i started feeling like my brain was turning, like drunk. or more like i had turned on a spot a hundred times...

Doc says the ear water level (.?.?) was unbalance.Health Question & Answer

I want to say yes-I have a friend who got hit upside the head. Doctors call it "boxers ear". She has to take meclazine (the stuff in Dramamine-they give you meclazine for dizziness when you have an ear infection.) I'd get it checked out.Health Question & Answer

Yes,most definately or labrynthitis (i think thats how it's spelled)
Sounds like a middle ear problem, this affects balance and can last a long time. Health Question & Answer

Quite possibly yes, i know someone who suffered from vertigo after being involved in an earthquake - I was in the same earthquake but I Just rolled over and went back to sleep :)Health Question & Answer
