Answers:
Unless it is the ankle joint itself which is causing you pain - in which case it might be a sprain, strain, or even fracture of the ankle (NOTE: this would be characterized by bruising, swelling, and pain in the ankle joint itself) - it sounds to me like the Achilles tendon is indeed where your injury is.
Achilles injuries are tricky, because the tendon is both large and powerful, and healing an injury to the Achilles incorrectly can be worse than not healing one at all. For immediate relief, you should ice (20 min every 2-4 hours), keep the affected foot elevated above the heart, stay off it as much as possible, and wrap with either a store-bought brace or an Ace Bandage (if you use an Ace, be sure not to wrap it too tightly or wear it to bed; if possible, particularly if you have never wrapped an Ace before, have a friend or relative help). Advil or Aleve will provide the best immediate pain relief.
However, Achilles injuries are amongst the most important to be seen by a doctor. He/She will need to rule out a tear in the tendon, which might require surgery, and will give you proper instruction on healing and caring for a strain, which may include crutches and/or physical therapy. It's important to go as soon as possible to the doctor, because you do not want to make any tear bigger or a strain more serious.
