My toe hurts and will not move upwards; what's wrong with it?!

Question: My toe hurts and will not move upwards; what's wrong with it.?
The other day I picked up a glass pitcher of orange juice and the bottom piece fell out onto the middle of my foot. I had to get stitches, but then noticed that I still couldn't put pressure on my foot like I was supposed to. My big toe as well as its connecting bone on the top and the side constantly ache, and I cannot lift my toe upward, no matter how hard I try. I can somewhat push my toe downwards, with effort. The urgent care doctor took x-rays and says that my foot looks fine. What could be the problem.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Your foot has lots of small bones, tendons and ligaments that have very little protection of fatty tissue or muscle over them to provide padding and protection. When you have an impact injury like you did, it is easy to damage the soft tissue (tendons and ligaments). When these are injured they affect your ability to move - they are what actually move the toe so if injured, you won't be able to move toes. It will take some time to heal, so make sure you give it plenty of rest, don't walk on your foot too much, soak in warm water with epsom salt added and take aspirin or other pain reliever. It will get better.in a couple of weeks.Health Question & Answer
