How Can I Help Someone Who's Having a Seizure?!

Question: How Can I Help Someone Who's Having a Seizure.?
I was noticing a guy on the bus this morning who was twitching sporadically. After brief consideration, I realized he might be about to have a seizure. For all I know, he might be riding the bus due to being epileptic. That's when I realized I really don't know what to do for someone who's experiencing one. Aside from 911, of course, what could I do to help someone who's having a seizure when we're waiting for paramedics to arrive.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Remove any objects around them that may cause them harm.
If their head looks as if it's going to be harmed, place a jacket or something where the head will hit. Under their head if possible is best.

DO NOT place anything in their mouths. INCLUDING FINGERS!!!

Remain with them and watch their breathing.

Stop others from doing what they 'think' they need to do as theve seen it on TV.

The seizure will pass in no longer than 3 minutes. If it lasts longer than this then call 911.

When the seizure has finished, place them on their left had side, with their head pointed down and mouth open. Stay with them until they return to full consciousness and feel OK.

Mst wake up feeling hung over, with a headache and some nausea.

Grand Mal seizures can be scary to deal with and see. So good on you for trying to learn how to help as many people wouldn't.

May I suggest a basic 1st Aide Course.?Health Question & Answer

ok, you've had the typical medical responses - but let me say this from experienc [one of my best friends suffers from more than a dozen different kinds of seizures]. A seizure is basically the brain short-circuiting. If you place a gentle hand on their arm, it gives them something to focus on and allows them to gently come out of the seizure. Calling 911 is not necessary unless it has been a violent seizure and they've seriously injured themselves [Dr & paramedics can't do anything for them during a seizure but make them comfortable as noted by others]. After the seizure, do not bombard them with questions- rather, assure them that they are fine and as they ask you questions, answer them simply [where am i, what time is it, etc] asking questions when their synopses are not firing properly just confuses and often scares them if they cannot answer.

get your first aid certificate as that will cover this sort of situation

check your not putting yourself or anybody else in danger i.e is he/she holding a sharp object etc.
get help and seek medical assistance (911 or 000 whatever emergency number)
if the person stops breathing check for a response/pulse if not found perform cpr and try to prevent the person from biting their tongue/lips and prevent from them swallowing their tongue.
THE MAIN GOAL IS TO PREVENT THE PERSON/ NEARBY PEOPLE FROM ANY HARM AND STAY CALM.
when paramedics arrive make sure to explain the situation (time of seizure/how long it occurred, how many seizures, head injuries, blood/foam etc.)
